The USO’s close relationship with military commands allows us to support the emergent needs of our Armed Forces. With the scale and reach of the USO, we are the only organization able to mobilize and help service members and military families being impacted by the coronavirus outbreak – at home and abroad.

On Tuesday, March 31, USO Schofield Barracks brought the Disney Movie Program to families on Helemano Military Reservation (HMR) who were restricted to their quarters. Many families took advantage of the beautiful day and during their time of daily physical activity, family members stopped by our mobile delivery set up to pick up a Disney movie and popcorn to enjoy at home. LTC William J. Cherkauskas, Commander, 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion (ESB) stationed at HMR, greeted residents and encouraged them to practice social distancing, while a USO volunteer and staff spread some much-needed cheer. LTC Cherkauskas urged residents to follow the USO’s web page and Facebook pages so residents can keep up with the virtual family activities and grab and go opportunities. He shared his deep gratitude for the USO:

“I can personally attest to the value of the USO across my 3 years’ worth of deployments to Southwest Asia and all that it has provided to me and my family. From using the USO Reading program to free snacks & coffee, to just having a quiet place to sit & relax while deployed, the USO will always have a special place in my heart.”

Disney’s sponsorship of the USO allowed the team at Schofield Barracks to distribute 100 movies to the community. Moms and dads said they were grateful for this opportunity and to have a new activity for the family.

USO Schofield Barracks also hosts Grab & Go Aloha Lunches on Wednesdays and Friday’s from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM at the USO center. Guests can still take advantage of USO programs while practicing social distancing. They will continue to hand out movies to families each Wednesday until supplies run out.

USO Schofield continues to support soldiers of the U.S. Army-Hawaii Replacement Company who are in ROM (Restriction of Movement) status with sacked lunches and snacks. Through these unprecedented times, USO Schofield is honored to continue connecting our service members to family, home and country in unique and creative ways.
