USS Illinois Arrives at Pearl Harbor
The USS Illinois became the 5th Virginia-class submarine stationed at Pearl Harbor on November 22, 2017 following a homeport change from Groton, Connecticut. Initially christened by First Lady Michelle Obama, the Illinois will now be assigned to Submarine Squadron One. Families waited anxiously for the sub’s arrival, and understandably so. Every PCS (permanent change of station) comes with its own set of challenges. When families move while their sailor makes the trip on their sub, you can imagine how much more difficult it can be. USO JBPHH was honored to support the sub’s homecoming ceremony and be a part of this joyous occasion.
