USO Hawaii Volunteer of the Quarter - Nainoa Ka'iama

Congratulations, Nainoa! We are pleased to announce that Nainoa Ka'iama has been selected as USO Hawaii Volunteer of the Quarter for Q3 2024!

Nainoa has contributed 791 hours over five months, and recruited, and trained 10 new volunteers. He has set a positive example for new volunteers, ensuring the USO is always prepared.

Nainoa consistently arrives 15-20 minutes early for his shift, energetically jumping in to ensure the center is “set up for success.” He double-checks all doors, ensures snacks and drinks are tastefully presented, maintains a high level of cleanliness, and spreads his kind energy and happy demeanor to everyone in the center.

When cleaning, patrons often remark on his dedication, joking that he outdoes himself. Other volunteers describe Nainoa as a hard worker and a “go-getter.”

In just five months, Nainoa has completed 791 hours of dedicated service. During this time, he demonstrated leadership by recruiting and training 10 new volunteers, teaching them the standards of cleanliness and professionalism while setting a strong example. Our center staff estimates that Nainoa has served over 3,000 patrons, engaging with them as they sign in, offering snacks, and informing them about upcoming events. Additionally, Nainoa has assisted with 19 USO events, making him a reliable asset to the team.

Nainoa recognized the low number of younger volunteers who consistently dedicated time to the center. He immediately began talking to fellow soldiers on base about the USO and the benefits of volunteering, such as a sense of fulfillment, staying active, getting out of the barracks or house, and earning the prestigious Army volunteer service medal.

Nainoa didn’t stop there—he persistently followed up with those he spoke to, guiding them through the application process. By the time a new volunteer completes a shadow shift with Nainoa, they not only understand center operations but also excel in maintaining the high level of customer service and dedication our community requires. His efforts have resulted in the recruitment and training of 10 new volunteers, and he continues to stay engaged with potential applicants daily.

We are grateful to have Nainoa as our volunteer. His invaluable contributions have significantly enhanced the USO’s ability to support the military community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Nainoa for his exceptional service, and we hope that his commitment encourages others to follow in his remarkable footsteps.

If you’re inspired by Nainoa’s story and want to make a difference, please consider signing up to volunteer at volunteer.uso.org. Together, we can continue to support our service members and make a positive impact in the lives of those who serve.
