Volunteer Appreciation Day 2024

The USO Hawaii recently held its annual volunteer appreciation day, an event dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions of its dedicated volunteers. More than 50 volunteers attended the gathering, which took place at a local restaurant overlooking the picturesque Arizona Memorial Bay area. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to catch up with fellow volunteers and get acquainted with those from different USO centers across the islands.

In addition to the chance to socialize and forge new connections, the volunteers were treated to delicious food and lively games, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and appreciation. Lifetime achievement awards were also presented to volunteers who had reached a certain number of service hours in 2023. A highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to several outstanding volunteers. The PVSA is a nationally recognized honor bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to volunteerism and community service.

The year 2023 marked significant milestones for USO Hawaii, with the USO Fort Shafter and USO Schofield Barracks centers undergoing renovations to create more welcoming spaces for service members and their families. Since reopening, these centers have offered a wider variety of programs catering to the needs of the military community. The volunteers have been the backbone of these operations, ensuring a smooth transition during staff changes and providing unwavering support throughout.

This year’s celebration held a unique significance, as new faces joined the ranks of the volunteers. This influx of fresh energy is a testament to the enduring appeal of the USO’s mission and the organization’s ability to attract dedicated individuals. While the event honored the steadfast commitment of loyal volunteers, it also celebrated the arrival of newcomers, each bringing their own passion and perspectives to the cause.

The USO Hawaii extends its heartfelt gratitude to its volunteers, whose selfless dedication has been instrumental in supporting the brave men and women of the armed forces and their families. Their tireless efforts have created a sense of community and a home away from home for those who serve our nation. The annual volunteer appreciation day is a small gesture of thanks for the immeasurable impact these volunteers have made and a reminder of the vital role they play in the USO’s mission.
